This photo by August Sander is another picture that really pays close attention to detail. The focus on what the man is wearing and where he is really helps to inform you amount the subject.

I find this portrait interesting in that you can start to develop in your mind who this person is and maybe some of the things he has gone through.

August Sander is the photographer that I’m relating to in the portrait. I like how he is capture a bit of who the person is that he is photographing.
Steve Schofield’s portrait photography interested me a lot in the way that the photos captured a lot of who the person he is photographing is. A lot of his photos are of peoples passions or what they do. The pictures really let the viewer into the life of his subject. I liked this because it is similar to that of August Sander in that he tries to show you who the person is through the portrait.
The photos that I have uploaded are a view into the less known part of someone. They all show the passion that these people have for Star Trek, Star Wars, or TMNT. I liked how they showed them all dressed up and ready to watch the shows, maybe even ready to do battle with their favorite characters. The photos captured something specific and genuine about the people that showed who they are. This is what I would like to capture in my portraits, a piece about who the person is.
For project 5, “Portraiture”, I was immediately captured by the artist August Sander. I really liked the simplicity of his shots and also how he was trying to really show who the person he was photographing was through their occupation. What struck me was not only this simplicity of what he was photographing, but also how powerful his photos are. The expressions and the way that people hold themselves in Sander’s photos make the photos really intense. He is trying to capture the person in their element to really show who they are.
For this project I would like to follow a similar path to August Sanders. Taking portraits of people to try to show who these people are and what makes them who they are. I would like to show some of the different social circles and types of people that make up the Beloit College student body. Photographing people in their rooms or stopping them and while they are doing what they love to do to ask for a portrait. I want to experiment is shooting in black and white because this worked really well for Sanders to help make the photos more powerful.
This photo shows garbage stuck in a branch. I like this photo because the garbage shouldn’t be there and looks trap amoung the branches.

This photo obiviously showing the trace that we all leave. I like how the photographer makes the landfill into a landscape.
